NCDC activates four more testing labs

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced the launch of four new COVID-19 testing laboratories to the list of molecular laboratory network across the country. NCDC disclosed this on Wednesday on its verified twitter handle. This brings the total number of laboratories in the country with the capacity to test for the virus to 38.

The centre also disclosed the laboratories are located in Ekiti, Kano States and the FCT. NCDC tweeted: “We are pleased to announce the inclusion of 4 new labs in the #COVID19 Molecular Lab Network: @weare54gene, Ekiti; @weare54gene, Abuja (to test returnees); @eHealth_africa Lab, Kano; International Foundation Against Infectious Diseases in Nigeria (IFAIN) Lab, Kano. “There are currently 38 laboratories in Nigeria with the capacity to test for #COVID19.”

According to the agency, it is planning to activate COVID-19 testing laboratories in Gombe and Ondo states. The NCDC had previously inaugurated COVID-19 testing laboratories in Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna ,Borno, Kano, and Plateau States. Others are in Oyo State, Osun State, Ebonyi State, Rivers State, Edo State, Imo State, as well as the FCT,Abuja.
