Monitoring officers of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission NBC have been urged to prepare themselves for the challenges ahead of digitization system which is expected to take off in 2017.
The former Director General of the NBC Bayo Atoyebi made the call while delivering his lecture titled Monitoring in a digital era” at the training workshop for NBC monitoring officers in Ilorin with the theme “content monitoring in the digital era”. Herdsmen
He assured Nigerians that the digitisation system would increase number of broadcasting stations in Nigeria, adding that playing field would be leveled for all broadcasting stations in term of monitoring.
He urged the monitoring officer of NBC to carry out their duties in line with the NBC code by ensuring total compliance by broadcasting stations.
Large number of NBC monitoring officers across the nation participated in the training.
In his speech, the Director of broadcast monitoring, Chris okoyomoh advocated for viewers sensitisation on media content and mode of reporting their complains to the NBC.
The Director General of NBC Ishaq Modibo Kawu in his remarks noted the NBC would be code would be reviewed in line with digitisation system, noting that monitoring would take qualitative new dimension.
“With the new potentially existing phase of digital transmission and the ongoing digital economy, there will be a surfeit of radio and television content providers all over Nigeria.
“It is clearer to me, that we cannot do our work with effectiveness, in the old ways.
“You cannot do things in the old ways, yet, you must first start from the old ways of learning to be effective as well as become professionals.
“There must be an evolution of technology, appropriate to the new phase” He said.
He explained that the digitisation system would create more job opportunities for Nigeria youth.
