THE National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Gani Adams stepped out of seclusion today as part of the necessary traditions he has to perform before his installation as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, was seen receiving the OPC Coordinator, today after 20 years of the demise of the last occupant, the late Chief MKO Abiola, who died on July 7, 1998.
It was gathered that the new Aare Ona Kakanfo was not expected to see the Alaafin of Oyo before his seclusion. However, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi received the new Aare Ona Kakanfo today accompanied by a lot of well-wishers after his seclusion.
It was reported that an 80-member committee headed by Archbishop Ladigbolu had put plans in motion in conjunction with the committee set up by the state government to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the installation to belay any hitch before and after the event.
The event is witnessed by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, former governors Adebayo Alao- Akala, Olusegun Mimiko and Emmanuel Uduaghan of Oyo, Ondo and Delta respectively.
the Ex- Govs Adebayo Alao-Akala, Olusegun Mimiko, Sen. Munsurat Sunmonu (APC-Oyo Central) and Afenifere Socio-Cultural Group charged Chief Gani Adams, the new Aare Ona Kakanfo on continuous patriotism.
According to Alao-Akala , Adams has been performing the role of Aare Ona Kakanfo before his installation as the 15th Aara Ona Kakanfo, adding the Alaafin has made the right choice. He described him as a tested, trusted and worthy warrior, who have always distinguished himself as a worthy Yoruba son.
The former governor urged him to continue with his Omoluabi character, which has been a source of courage to the people. Mimiko also said that Adams has always displayed quintessential patriotism, which distinguished him from the pack.
He also said that the new Aare Ona Kakanfo was a right choice at the right time, saying he was a worthy son of the Yoruba race and Nigeria. Mimiko urged him not to relent in his commitment to national growth and security, which he has always shown much commitment in the past.
Similarly, thousands of OPC members, as well as Odua Peoples Union, OPU, are attending. Other key figure expected at the epochal celebration and installation ia vice-president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
