Ahead of its planned nationwide strike expected to commence on Friday, the United Labour Congress of Nigeria, ULC, has urged Nigerians to stockpile foodstuff and other basic necessities that could last them during the duration of the strike as critical sectors of the economy would be affected by the action.
Addressing journalists in Lagos on Wednesday, president of the ULC, Joe Ajaero, said there is no going back on their proposed nationwide strike as the twenty-one-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to meet their demands expires tomorrow.
The ULC comprises workers from the oil and gas, electricity, banking and aviation on Wednesday.
The demands include the immediate withdrawal of soldiers from workplaces, setting up of a task to carry out factory inspections, payment of all arrears of salaries owed workers, implementation of 2009 agreement with university lecturers and commencement of negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities to end the ongoing strike.
