KWASU SET TO REDUCE ITS GREEN HOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

As part of proactive measures to cut back on diesel fuel consumption and its attendant green house gas emissions, the Kwara State University, Malete has taken the bold step to establish a Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE).

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN), made this known when he paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Chancellor of KWASU, Dr. J.B.O. Adewunmi in his hometown in Oko, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday the 12th of June 2020.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the center was established to make up for the enormous energy deficit being experienced in the university, increase the renewable energy portfolio of the university substantially, cut back on the institution’s reliance on diesel fuel consumption and by implication, reduce green house gas emissions.

Prof. Akanbi also noted that in line with KWASU’S core values of academic excellence, equity and diversity, the center will advance world class research activities with the aim of facilitating visible and sustainable energy development for the country as a whole.

He said the centre will also train students in various areas of energy development which will lead to the award of certificates, degrees and Master degrees in renewable energy.

KWASU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN), during the courtesy visit to the newly appointed Chancellor of KWASU, Dr. J.B.O. Adewunmi in his hometown in Oko, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday the 12th of June 2020.

He said “as one of the few Nigerians saddled with the responsibility of resuscitating the moribund hydro electric projects in the country, KWASU will be grateful if we can tap from your fountain of knowledge and experience as a foremost educationist, philanthropist and engineer”.

” I hope that your appointment will add more value to the university in our collective bid to move the institution forward”.

On his part, the new Chancellor of KWASU said quality should always be the watch word in KWASU in its quest to raise graduates that are employable.

While pointing out that though Engineering is his occupation, education is his passion. He stated that education is the best means of developing the country.
