In commemoration of the 2020 World Youth Skills Day, the Kwara State first lady Dr Olufolake Abdulrazaq has implored youth to explore this period to acquire new skills in Employment and Entrepreneurship which would put them in the right space for jobs or setting up businesses.
The first lady said as part of her contribution, the Ajike People’s Support Center have taken skills acquisition of youths and women as one of their core concerns.
According to a statement by her Chief Press Secretary, Adeniyi Adeyinka, the Fjrst Lady and Ajike People support centre have trained thousands of women in various skills together with the help of some support groups.
He said about forty youths were last month trained in tailoring and presented with sewing machines when they graduated on Thursday.
He added that the First Lady’s Office and the Ajike People Support Centre were also in Offa to give out sewing machines, grinding machines and hair dryers to some entrepreneurial women identified by the Olofa of Offa to assist them.

The World Youth Skills Day is a UN designated day that seeks to generate greater awareness and discussion on the importance of technical, vocational education, and training and the development of other skills relevant to both local and global economies. It is hoped that it will contribute to reducing unemployment and underemployment among the youth across the globe.
The aim of WYSD is to recognize the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship, and to highlight the crucial role of skilled youth in addressing current and future global challenges.
