Keep your promotion if you don’t pay arrears – Akwa Ibom workers tell Udom

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Akwa Ibom State Council, on Monday reacted to the recently released promotion of Civil and Public servants in the state.Udom

NLC asked the state government to accompany the 2011 to 2014 promotions with due arrears or withhold same.

A statement by NLC Chairman, Comrade Etim Ukpong, said Labour at no point negotiated or agreed with the state government on promotion without arrears.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Akwa Ibom State Council hereby states categorically that at no time whatsoever did it enter into any agreement with government nor sign any memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the government of the state to the effect that promotions of those years should be released to workers without the corresponding arrears,” the statement reads in part.

“While the NLC, Akwa Ibom State council demands that letters of promotion to workers be accompanied with arrears of promotion as is legitimate, the NLC urges workers to disregard any insinuations to the contrary”, he added.

NLC further advised the state government to do the needful rather than trying to act as though all was well with the state workers.
