Kaduna lawmakers elect new Deputy Speaker after former deputy speaker defects to opposition party

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has elected a new Deputy Speaker following the defection of the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House, John Kwaturu, and another member representing Kudan Constituency, Yakubu Junaidu, from the ruling All Progressives Congress  to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Speaker of the House, Aminu Shagala, declared the seats of the two lawmakers during plenary today in Kaduna.

Shagala explained that there was no reason for the lawmakers’ defection since there is no crisis in All Progressives Congress (APC) that could have warranted such action.

Consequently, the lawmakers elected Nuhu Goroh Shadalafiya as the new deputy speaker. Shadalafiya, until now, was Chairman, House Committee on Information and has been sworn in as the new Deputy Speaker.
