There was a jubilation in Isapa, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday after the announcement of Oba Adeyeye Olugbemiga Adefioye (One) as the new Onisapa of Isapa land.
The jubilant crowd danced round the ancient town to demonstrate wide acceptance immediately the new monarch emerged from seclusion where installation rites were performed on him.
The kingmakers of the town announced Oba Adeyeye Olugbemiga Adefioye as the new traditional ruler to the admiration of the people.
According to the tradition and customs of the ancient town, the kingmakers known as ‘Aku-Meji’, constituted by the two compounds in Isapa (Ikimo and Okelekan Compounds) are empowered to install a King, who must have emerged and pronounced by the ruling House next in line to produce the Onisapa.
Prior, the 46 year old new traditional ruler was next in rank to his predecessor, late Oba Rapheal Alayande Oguntola, as he was the Elekan of Isapa land, the highest ranked chief from his Ilekan Ruling House, which is the next ruling House in line to produce the Onisapa.
The highest ranked chief from either of the two Ruling Houses, Ilekan or Iwoye Ruling House, whose turn is to produce the king, traditionally and customarily becomes who will be pronounced and presented to the Kingmakers (Aku Meji), for traditional installation as new Onisapa.
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affair, Architect Aliyu Mohammed Saifudeen, had during the state government’s condolence visit to the family of the immediate past monarch of the town, Oba Rapheal Alayande Oguntola, admonished the people to strictly observe and adhere to tradition and custom for a hitch free transition process.
