The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has ordered the dismantling of all
roadblocks nationwide with immediate effect particularly on Lagos-Ibadan, Shagamu-
Benin, and Benin-Onitsha highways.
According to a statement issued last night by the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood,
the order also affected Okene-Abuja, Kaduna-Kano, Katsina – Kano, Otukpo – Enugu,
Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressways. He said the directive was necessary to enable the
ease of doing business in Nigeria.
Moshood stated that Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police
must ensure that every patrol vehicle in their respective formation has a legible
inscription of patrol vehicle identification number, and dedicated emergency phone
numbers for report of distress by members of the public.
Police personnel involved in vehicular patrol on highways and major roads across the
country are also directed to wear their uniforms with a bold name tag and service
number. The Force also warned revenue/tax collectors, road transport unions, labour
and trade-related unions that it is illegal to restrict members of the public from the free
use of roads anywhere in the country for the purposes of collecting any Tax or Levy.
