House of assembly targets mineral resources to address infrastructural development in Kwara

As part of efforts to ensure self-sustenance in financing infrastructural development in Kwara state, the State House of Assembly has pledged to ensure adequate funding of the newly constituted State Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee to enable the state derive maximum benefits of its abundant mineral resources.

The Speaker, Doctor Ali Ahmad who gave the assurance in Ilorin while receiving the committee led by its chairman, Engineer Abubakar Idris in office expressed delight over the establishment of the committee by the Federal Government, saying the committee will enable people to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

While noting that the house is passionate in ensuring that the state harnessed its abundant mineral deposits, the Speaker disclosed that the legislature under his watch will ensure that the state government has its own mining outfits.

The Chairman of the House Ad-Hoc Committee on Mineral Resources, Honorable Hassan Oyeleke who noted that many states have passed laws to guard against illegal mining, expressed confidence that the setting up of the state Mining Committee will be beneficial to the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the State Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee Engineer Abubakar Idris, urged the legislature to give the needed support.
