The Senate on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Kaduna following continuous attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
In a motion sponsored by Senator Danjuma La’ah, he said communities in the state have consistently been under attack by suspected herdsmen since 2011.
“Subsequent to the attacks, these herdsmen have virtually occupied the displaced communities and are grazing their cattle freely,”.
“These attacks have caused destruction of lives and properties, displacement of indigenes”.
Senator Shehu Saniform Kaduna State supporting the motion said it will give the senators opportunity to intervene in the crisis.
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in his remark said something had to be done.
