The President of the Kogi Integrity Group (KIG), Dare Zacheaus, on Sunday raised the alarm over the alleged threat to his life following his continued criticism of the activities of the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye.
He called on security operatives in the state to be proactive and ensure the security of his life and his family members.
According to him, there have been series of threat and intimidations from the senator’s aides with intentions to inflict pains and injury and possibly terminate his life and members of his family for criticising him.
The KIG president said, “Being one of the leading critics calling for the immediate and in-depth investigation of allegations of bribery and other corrupt practices disclosed against Senator Dino Melaye and Justice Akron Ikpeme in a viral audio evidence.”
“Last week, one of Dino’s aides called me that he had warned me severally to desist from attacking his principal, but that I have bluntly refused to heed to his warnings, and threatened that by the time they would start with me the whole world will beg on my behalf.”
He however said information available to him showed that some cult members and gang of armed men had been mobilised to launch attack on him because of “his incompetence, poor representation of his constituents, and his involvement in allegations of bribery and other corrupt practices.”
“I want to restate and reaffirm my commitment as the President of Kogi Integrity Group (KIG), to ensure that the electorate demand good governance, accountability and decency from their representatives at all levels irrespective of the personality involved.”
“As a group, we believe that the greatest threat to our nascent democracy and the anti-corruption war is impunity by highly placed individuals who carry-on as if they are ‘sacred cow’ or above the law.”
However, Melaye has described the allegations baseless and unfounded, saying the group was a faceless one that was doing the bidding of the state governor.
The senator, who spoke through his special assistant, media, Gideon Ayodele, said he had no dealing with “Zacheaus or anybody in the faceless group”.
He said the allegations were coming from a guilty mind, who should be wary of his relationship with people, saying Zacheaus posed no threat to him politically.
