Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, Nigeria, other African countries, South Asia, and Latin American countries have been severely exposed to the impact of the food crisis.
This is according to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which disclosed that the affected countries are hotspots around the world as they now endure some of the worst effects of the crisis because of heavy reliance on food imports, high import bills, high inflation, a high debt burden, climate risks, and civil unrest.
The group also claimed that Nigeria and the other affected countries face severe levels of extreme poverty, compounded by the ongoing economic and social challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
While providing solution to the food crises, the Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group Nigeria, Stefano Niavas said the government and all critical stakeholders should ensure stabilizing the rising cost of food and fertilizer by the provision of viable seedlings, supporting the growth of alternative nutritious grains, driving the adoption of innovative farm practices.
