Governor Ahmed calls for calm in Ilorin, urges security agencies to restore order following political violence

Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed has expressed concern over the recent political violence in Ilorin. In a social media post on Sunday, the Governor said campaigns should be about ideas and not violence.

He therefore called on all concerned to avoid actions that can rupture the peace of the state and threaten its security. Governor Ahmed also called on security agencies to secure lives and property as well as prosecute offenders.

In a similar development, residents of Aiyelabegan Compound in Agbaji District of Okemale Area in Ilorin have called on the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari and the various security agencies in Kwara state to call political parties to order to stop causing crises in the state.

The appeal was made by the Mogaji of Aiyelebagan compound, Alhaji Sulyman Oba Aiyelabegan while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin. He alleged that the compound was initially attacked on Thursday, by supporters of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki who are insisting that everyone must support the PDP political leader.

He said that people of Ile Aiyelabegan have the right to hold political views of their choice and should not be coerced to be supporters of anybody against its wish. It would be recalled that the Senate President had earlier said that APC supporters also attacked his family home as well as his supporters during the last APC rally.
