Gov. Yahaya inspects state of infrastructure at Government Science Secondary School, Kaltungo

15th December, 2019

…Vows to restore school’s past glory

…Tasks communities on maintenance culture

Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has promised to restore the famous Government Science Secondary School, Kaltungo to its past glory.

Governor Yahaya stated this during an unscheduled visit to assess progress and level of work that his administration awarded few months ago in the school.

Governor Yahaya, who stressed his administration’s committment towards prioritizing education and revitalizing schools in the state, said there is no alternative to education, hence he will leave no stone unturned in revamping the sector.

He disclosed plans to upgrade and modernize some selected schools across the 3 senatorial zones and make them standard so as to compete favourably with others across the country in terms of facilities, teaching and learning.

He said, “Despite the meagre resources at our disposal, our administration will ensure that some selected schools across the 3 senatorial zones in the state are upgraded to the required standard”.

He added that, ” I recently declared a state of emergency in education with a view to addressing the challenges in the sector as well as the rots and infrastructural decay in our schools, bequeathed to us by the immediate past administration. You can all see for yourselves we are matching our words with actions.

“I am therefore giving you my words that this administration will do its part in fixing this school and the community shall also compliment government’s effort by collaborating with the school’s officials in protecting the infrastructures”.

“I task you to imbibe maintenance culture by taking ownership and protecting public property in your respective communities.Whenever public property is not properly managed, host communities become the most affected”.

The Commissioner of Education, Dr. Habu Dahiru conducted the Governor round the school buildings, in company of the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the state Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners, Special Advisers, the Mai Kaltungo and other government functionaries.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the structures undergoing renovation and promised to ensure that the school gets all the required modern educational facilities.

It will be recalled that the Governor had recently directed the state Ministry of Education to commence renovation of delapidated structures at the Government Secondary School Kaltungo and other schools , which he met in total decay and appalling conditions on assumption of office.
