Four students of Kuramo Senior College have drowned at the Elegushi Beach, in the Lekki area of Lagos State while celebrating their West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
It was gathered that the ten secondary school leavers, aged between 14 and 15, went to swim at the beach to celebrate the completion of their West African Senior School Examination.
In a statement by the spokesperson of the Elegushi Beach Management, Chief Ayuba Elegushi, the pupils were not properly registered, noting that the incident happened at an unmanned section of the beach not open to the public.
Chief Ayuba stated that the students were initially sent away from the area of the beach they wanted to swim but went to another place that was not for the public through the help of a boy, Abass, who is the child of the Beach Kinsman.
In his remarks, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.
