The federal government is to empower ninety-eight thousand Nigerians with small loans in another phase of its empowerment programme, under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
According to reports, the beneficiaries of the small loans would cut across the thirty-six states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and have been engaged in the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, otherwise known as GEEP 2.0.
While the certified and qualified beneficiaries of the phase 1 of the program are in their final verification stage and are reported to benefit from small loans ranging from fifty thousand to three hundred thousand naira.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq, in a statement by her Special Assistant, on Media, said all beneficiaries of Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme 2.0 shall receive congratulatory and sensitization text messages to inform them of their qualification.
He, however, emphasize that the empowerment program is a loan and not a grant, adding that the beneficiaries would refund within nine months without interest.
