Following the decision of the Kwara State government to disengage over two thousand Kwara teachers otherwise known as SUNSET WORKERS from their duty in 2020, the disengaged staff of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) have called for the government to reconsider its decision to alleviate them from poverty and hardship.
It could be recalled that in December, 2020, the Kwara State government pronounced the disengagement of two thousand four hundred and fourteen staff of the Universal Basic Education Board employed by the previous administration.
The government in a statement titled, “Kwara State Government Takes Stand on 2019 SUBEB workers” then signed by the Press Secretary Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development titled claimed the number of teachers employed by the previous administration in 2019 contravenes the number ratified by the state executive council among other discrepancies that marred their employment process.
Speaking at the Conference Hall of the Nigeria Union of Journalist NUJ, Kwara State Chapter, Comrade Saheed Olayinka, who represented the concerned teachers, accused the government of filling the public with lies by claiming that the concerned teachers were unqualified.
Explaining the impact the decision has cost the concerned teachers, Comrade Saheed said that the disengaged SUBEB staff has lost some of their colleagues due to frustrations of losing their source of income.
He, however, called on prominent individuals in the society to come to their aid as the concerned teachers have been subjected to hardship and poverty since losing their source of livelihood.
