Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT has adjourned hearing in the case of false assets declaration filed against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, indefinitely.
The CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, who announced the adjournment today, said it was in obedience to the interim order granted by the Court of Appeal, Abuja. The appellate had on Thursday ordered the tribunal to stay proceedings pending ruling on an application to stay proceedings filed by Onnoghen.
The suspended CJN had approached the Court of Appeal urging it to bar the tribunal from trying him. The appeal court adjourned its main ruling on the case until January 30.
Meanwhile, the police this morning sealed off Onnoghen’s office located at the Supreme Court premises. Media aide to Onnoghen, Awusam Bassey, confirmed the ejection of staff and sealing off of the office. This came as the National Judicial Council has fixed Tuesday for an emergency meeting to deliberate on Onnoghen’s suspension.
