Buhari appoints Onibiyo Adio as Executive Secretary of NEITI

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr. Waziri Onibiyo Adio, a Communication Consultant and Publisher of Metropole Magazine as the new executive secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).Waziri

This is contained in a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir David Lawal, signed on his behalf by Bolaji Adebiyi.

The statement also said the President has approved the appointment of a new 14-man National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG) also known as Governing Board for the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).NEITI

The new executive secretary previously held various editorial positions in Thisday Newspaper and was Special Adviser, Research and Strategy, Office of the Senate President, from August 2003 to October 2004.

He was appointed Communication Specialist by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2004 until 2007 when he left to serve as Director of Communications, NEITI from May 2007 to June 2008.

Adio, who graduated with a BSc. Mass Communication from the University of Lagos in 1992, also obtained MSc. Journalism Degree from Columbia University, New York, in 1999.

He also holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA, 2009.

The 14-member NEITI Board also has the Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dr. Kayode Fayemi as Chairman while Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance, Group Managing Director Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, President Miners Association of Nigeria, Representative of the Civil Society Organizations (to be elected by the organizations), President, Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society and President Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) as member.

Also in the board are representatives of the six geo-political zones comprising Hannatu Musa Musawa (Journalist) North-West, Mr. Lawan Gana Lantaiwa (Consultant) North-East, Mr. Bernard B. A. Ver (Accountant) North-Central Mrs. Anne Adaeze Onyekwena South-East, Mr. Emmanuel Chiejina (Lawyer) South-South, and Mr. Gbenga Onayiga (Journalist), South-West.

The SGF said the new Governing Board will be inaugurated soon.
