Boko Haram: Army Chief meets Borno Elders over renewed offensive

The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Leuitenant General Tukur Buratai on Wednesday had a meeting with Borno Elders on the renewed offensive against insurgents.Buratai Tukur

The three-hour meeting, which was held behind closed door, started at about 3pm and lasted till 6:25pm at the Headquarters of the Theatre Command.

Although, the COAS did not speak to press after the meeting, the Chairman of the Borno Elders’ Forum, Ambassador Usman Gaji Galtimari in an interview with newsmen said most of the issues discussed were security issues that was not supposed to be made public.

He expressed hope that very soon, the lingering crisis posed by insurgents would be a thing of the past.

He, however, called on all and sundry to support government and security operatives in their effort to defeat insurgents.

“We are here with my members to deliberate on issues which I cannot disclose to the public for now, all aimed at how best to restore peace to our dear land, and we are hopeful that at the end of it all, we will succeed”, he stated.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Galtimari, the Secretary of the forum, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, Former governor of Borno State, Alhaji Ashiekh Jarma, Alhaji Lawan Badawi, Alhaji Gambo Gubio, Alhaji Garba Satomi, among others.
