The Plateau state government has closed down 62 poultry farms and destroyed more than 190,000 birds affected by bird flu across the state.
In an interview with NAN today in Jos, the director veterinary services, Dr Doris Bitrus said the disease had continued to spread because farmers whose farms were affected by the disease last year were not compensated and decided to sell their sick birds to marketers.
She however disclosed that the government is working towards promoting more bio-safety measures to check the spread of the disease.
