Biafran agitation was born in error and ignorance- Obasanjo

Erstwhile President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday enjoined Nigerians not to support the struggle for the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra, stressing that the idea was conceived in error.OBJ

He stated this while delivering his keynote address at a public discussion on Biafra organised by Nextier Advisory in Abuja on Friday.

Obasanjo said, “Biafra as a secession issue is dead, and nobody should follow that way. I see it as a platform rather than a cause.”

Stating that he was been cautious of getting into a debate on the “Biafra secession issue” said, “The agitation was born in error and ignorance.”

According to Obasanjo, the succession issue has been commercialised, as some people now use the course to extort money from gullible people.

The former President cited the issuance of Biafra passport, “which takes one nowhere”, as an example of some people making industry out of the agitation.

“There is the commercialization of the Biafra agitation, which is criminal. For example, the issuance of the so-called Biafra passport which takes one nowhere,”

“Biafra agitation is as an industry; a means of making money. Biafra agitation is a hopeless and futile exercise of which nobody should embark on,” Obasanjo said.
