Bello orders immediate reinstatement of LG chairmen sacked by Wada

Newly inaugurated Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has ordered the immediate reinstatement of all local government council chairmen who were sacked by his predecessor, Capt. Idris Wada, for defecting to the then opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.Yahaya-Bello

But Bello, in a directive issued on Friday by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Edward David Onoja, stated that he is committed to his contract with the people of Kogi State to promote the rule of law and ensure that no one is oppressed based on political beliefs or any other reason whatsoever.

Where the Vice Chairmen are acting in the capacity of the affected Chairmen, he directed that they revert to their original positions to allow the latter reclaim their position.

While stressing that he expects the normalization to be carried out without rancour, regardless of political differences, the Governor directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Local Government Service Commission to comply immediately and accordingly.

The directive, however, clarified that Chairmen who were removed via impeachment are considered to have been legally removed and are bound to the legal status quo. Onoja stressed that the directive is in line with the New Direction of constitutional supremacy.
