ASUU begins nationwide referendum on strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has begun a nationwide referendum on whether to resume its suspended strike to force the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement and 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) freely entered into with the union.

This follows a resolution at the National Executive Council meeting of the union held at the Nasarawa State University (NSU) yesterday at the directive of the national body, to decide whether or not to go ahead with the planned strike.

The directive sent to branches of ASUU by its National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, as mandated by the National Executive Council, asked members to decide whether to proceed on two-week warning strike, one-month warning strike, no strike action or total and indefinite strike if the Federal Government fails to satisfactorily address its concerns by the end of today, the eleventh of August.

The Chairman of ASUU-Lagos State University (LASU) Dr Isaac Akinloye Oyewunmi said yesterday that the chapter resolved in favour of “total and indefinite strike”.
