Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship primary election of the All Progressive Congress, APC, concerned foundation members of the party in Kwara state have expressed concern over the compromised nature of the process in Kwara and therefore called for the adoption of consensus and zoning arrangement at all levels in the state.
At a mass rally organized to press home their concern, the APC loyalists said the adoption of consensus and zoning arrangement over direct or indirect mode of primaries in Kwara state become expedient following alleged infiltration of the party by moles working for the opposition in a bid to hijack the party and plot its collapse.
The address of the concerned APC members was signed by a State House of Assembly Member, Honourable Saheed Popoola who represented Kwara South, Alhaji Omar Aiyelabegan, from Kwara Central and Alhaji Mohammed Shafihi, from Kwara North.
Popoola said although dubious party members have been smoked out while the harmonization exercise with former members of the Peoples Democratic Party, had been very successful, he noted that a notable political figure in Kwara, now in the PDP is still planting moles within the APC and has purchased nomination forms for his cronies for all offices to be contested.
According to him, there are evidences that some imported elements from Osun, Oyo and other neighbouring states participated in the just concluded registration exercise in Kwara State while membership forms were reportedly duplicated in some places.
While commending the National leadership of the party for supporting Kwara in purging its rank and file, Popoola called on the Adams Oshiomhole-led executive to intervene towards ensuring the adoption of concensus in Kwara, so that the party will not make the mistake of the past.
