The vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali has commended the Federal Government on the new 180 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board ‘JAMB’ bench mark set for Universities, Colleges of Education and Polytechnics.
Ambali who disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists in Ilorin noted that the new policy would ensure efficient academic development.
He added that the new cut-off point would remove impression of categorizing polytechnic as institution of lower status.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government has scrapped post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME, as a pre-condition to gaining admission into universities in the country.
The government and stakeholders in education sector also pegged one hundred and eighty as benchmark for 2016/2017 admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to improve quality of education in Nigeria.
