A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kwara State, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo has expressed reservations about the attitude of political aspirants who live far from the people, only to appear during election season.
Akogun Oyedepo spoke against the practice just as he affirmed his decision to contest for the Kwara South Senatorial seat in 2023. He, however, did not say expressly which party’s flag he was going to flag.
Speaking on ‘Oro to nlo’, a News and Current Affairs program on RoyalFM on Wednesday, Oyedepo said it is essential for the people’s representative to spend time in the community and build relationship with them.
This, according to him will help such individuals identify the people’s needs and the best way to approach such.
The legal practitioner said the declaration follows the admonition from his supporters, prodding him to run for the senatorial position, having supported several individuals for political offices several times in the past.
On the need for women to be given more opportunities in governance, Oyedepo said women even deserve more than thirty-five percent affirmative action, but noted that educated and knowledgeable women need to show interest in politics in order to qualify for the task.
The Kwara South born politician while reacting to the crisis rocking the APC in Kwara State, ruled out the possibility of a resolution at this juncture.
He admitted playing a key role in the victory of the APC in the 2019 Governorship election, but hinted at certain foul play in the emergence of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, as the party’s flagbearer.
Barr. Oyedepo accused the Governor of running a one-man show and refusing to give peace a chance right from the outset.
