The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has appealed to the Oyo and Osun State Governments not to increase tuition at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso under the present economic realities in the country.
This appeal was made today in a statement jointly signed by NANS’ National Public Relations Officer and Chairman of Joint Campus Committee, Bestman Okereafor and Moronkola Abiola, respectively.
They said NANS will not tolerate any form of students oppression as the leadership of the association is set to mediate matters confronting the students in the institution.
The association frowned at the planned increment of the fees to as high as three hundred thousand naira from the current one hundred and fifty thousand naira which was also a recent increment from seventy-two thousand, five hundred naira. According to them, the alleged planned increment is highly unjust.
It would be recalled that LAUTECH was under lock and key for almost two years as a result of workers’ agitation for payment of salary and incentives. NANS said it is therefore unfair to risk any further alteration in the university’s academic calendar as a result of this planned tuition fee hike as the institution is just recuperating from a backlog of inactivity within the academic community.
